Introducing TSCPA's 2007-08 President Janice B. Smith

Janice B. Smith

Janice B. Smith, CPA, of Bean Station, was recently elected president of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA), the professional association for more than 8,000 CPAs residing and practicing in Tennessee. Smith's term began July 15 at TSCPA's 77th Annual Convention and Educational Conference.

Smith is a partner with Bible, Harris, Smith, PC, in Knoxville. She has been a member of TSCPA for 17 years, holding various leadership positions at the chapter and state levels. She has served as Knoxville Chapter assistant treasurer and president-elect and was elected president in 1998. On the state level, she has held positions on TSCPA's Board of Directors and Council, serving as the society's Knoxville Chapter director from 2000 - 2003. She has also served on various state committees including the Accounting Education and Career Awareness Committee and Public Relations Committee, which she chaired for three years. Last year, Smith served as president-elect of TSCPA.

As president, Smith will serve as a member of the TSCPA Board of Directors, which is the governing body of the association and establishes policy for all society activities.

Smith also concurrently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of TSCPA's Educational & Memorial Foundation, which provides comprehensive continuing education for CPAs and gives academic scholarships. This year, the foundation will award more than $135,000 in scholarships to accounting students attending Tennessee's colleges and universities.

Michael Cain, CPA, of Brentwood, co-managing partner of Lattimore, Black, Morgan & Cain, PC; Vice President Jack (Andy) Bonner Jr., CPA, of Kingsport, a principal at Dent K. Burk Associates, PC; Secretary David A. Curbo, CPA, of Germantown, a partner with Cannon & Co., PC; and Treasurer Katherine G. Watts, CPA, of Brownsville, a partner with HORNE LLP.
