Important
Parking Information for July Meeting
The chapter has been
informed that no competing events are taking place against the July
14 meeting. Thus, the Crowne Plaza parking garage should have
sufficient parking. In the event the parking garage is full, the
chapter board has reserved 30 spaces in the Republic Systems
parking lot on Vine Avenue, which is behind the Crowne Plaza.
If you should need to park in the Vine Avenue lot, someone should
be staffing the booth. Please inform the attendant that you are a
member of the TSCPA Knoxville Chapter. You will receive a permit
allowing you to park in the lot at no cost to you. In the event no
one is staffing the booth, please see the treasurer or
assistant-treasurer at sign-in. You will receive a parking permit,
which then will need to be placed in your vehicle. Sorry for any
inconvenience this may create.
Access to the Crowne Plaza from the Vine Avenue lot is through a
door accessible from the back of the building. Through this door,
you will take two flight of stairs to the first level of the Crowne
Plaza parking garage. When you have arrived at the first level of
the garage, please enter through the double doors to the Crowne
Plaza lobby.
In the unlikely event that both Crowne Plaza parking garage and the
Vine Avenue lot are full, please take advantage of the Market
Square parking garage. There is no cost to park in the Market
Street Garage if you either 1) enter the garage after 6:00 p.m., or
2) exit the garage after 8:00 p.m. An attendant is on duty until
8:00 p.m. to collect parking fees from exiting vehicles that
entered the garage prior to 6:00 p.m. Please see the treasurer or
assistant treasurer at sign-in for reimbursement if needed.

President's Message |
|

Chapter Members:
I hope each of you is having a great start to the summer. Take time
each day to enjoy the small things that life has to offer. We are all
so busy at times that the small things sometimes simply go unnoticed.
The smile from a friend, a pat on the back or a warm sunny day are
all things that we can simply take for granted. Each day is a gift
and ours to make however we so choose. Lets all choose this summer to
relish in what we have and help share ourselves with those closest to
us. East Tennesseans are by nature some of the friendliest and most
caring people found in this great land of ours. Make a point this
summer to strengthen ties you may have with family, friends or
clients by sharing some of the small things in life with them.
The 79th Annual Convention and Educational Conference in Asheville,
N.C., was a tremendous success. The setting was simply spectacular at
The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa. There is something to be said about
attending continuing professional education classes at a resort
nestled in the mountains of Western North Carolina. A walk out onto
the Sunset Terrace left you breathless with the views that stretched
for as far as the eye could see. It is always great to attend the
annual conference and catch up with fellow colleagues that you may
not have seen in a while. The Great Hall, measuring 120 feet across
with 24-foot ceilings, was a great place to visit and catch up with
other practitioners from around the state. Quotes from several
American Literature Icons were etched throughout The Great Hall. One
quote that made an impression on me was from David Thoreau, “Be not
simply good; be good for something.”
The date has been set for the 15th annual Knoxville Chapter Golf
Tournament to benefit The Angel Tree. The tournament will be held
Oct. 5 at Centennial Golf Course in Oak Ridge. The Knoxville
Chapter has historically been either the first or second largest
benefactor to The Angel Tree. It is anticipated that the financial
need placed on The Angel Tree will be even greater this year. With
that in mind, please plan on being a sponsor, a player or both.
I, as well as the other board members, am here to serve you. Please do
not hesitate to let me or a board member know of any concerns or
suggestions you may have.
Benjamin M. Alexander
Knoxville Chapter President
