Lean Manufacturing / Lean Accounting - Why Go Lean?
Robert L. Webb, President,
Robert L. Webb and
Associates, Lean Management
Solutions, LLC, Knoxville,
Tenn.
Do you know the difference between Lean Accounting and Accounting for Lean? Are these the latest buzzwords and
concepts with nothing really different?
American manufacturers have quietly been changing their operating systems to reduce waste and create customer
value with TPM, TQM, 5S, Six Sigma, kaizen events, value stream mapping and other lean tools and techniques. They
have not been able to quantify the positive impact in financial statements using outdated standard costing systems.
Lean Accounting uses new metrics that measure the progress and provide managers with visual information for real
time decisions that positively impacts the business.
To better understand Why Go Lean, you will learn why standard costing no longer applies to manufacturing in a global
environment, what factors need to be measured, who will be the new decision makers, what are the Lean advantages
and where are the lost opportunities that are currently being missed. |

Through a brief review of the environmental, health and safety rogram of a Fortune 100 manufacturing company,
this presentation will provide the foundation principles for establishing a corporate responsibility program for smaller,
public and private, middle market companies. In a world “going green,” threatened by pandemic illness and economic
recession, how can your clients effectively establish comprehensive safety standards without detracting attention from
the bottom line? The presentation will be informative (with handouts) and interactive. |

are issues of common law. This session reviews recent court cases involving the interpretation of important statutes,
such as the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Legalities of interviewing will also be discussed. |
