President's Message
I don’t to want distract you too much from sending your RSVP for the Casino Party (since you are all writing down the May 2 date and preparing to send your RSVP to attend right now), thus I will simply recap some of the events and major accomplishments of your Board of Directors and the Chapter as a whole from the past year:

July 2007- Memphis sent 13 attendees to the TSCPA Accounting Academy in Nashville (the most ever from Memphis).

August 2007- The chapter saw the largest attendance at CPE for Ethics (180) and largest attendance at a chapter meeting (154) that I can remember. We introduced the firm attendance challenge to “Empty the Office.”

James O. Shearer Golf Tournament netted $6,829 for the Memphis Chapter Scholarship fund.

September 2007- Blockbuster CPE presentation on various topics from four attorney/partners from Baker Donelson et al.

Chapter volunteers made child identification cards for COMEC (Amber Alert Program).

November 2007- A large crowd of 186 CPAs and bankers attended the Annual Bankers Night and heard First Tennessee President Charles Burkett address the then-looming mortgage crisis in the industry.

December 2007- The chapter hosted a fantastic holiday party at The Pink Palace Museum. Members enjoyed The Enchanted Forest Festival of Trees, live music and lots of food and fun.

February 2008- The chapter donated $38,675 (1,547 members @ $25) to the expansion of the TSCPA headquarters building in Brentwood and presented the check to TSCPA President Janice Smith after her address at the February meeting. Large attendance (more than 15) by past chapter presidents.

March 2008- The Board awarded $21,000 in scholarships to 19 deserving students from The University of Memphis, Christian Bros. University, Rhodes College and LeMoyne-Owen College. The money for the scholarships comes from the regular chapter budget.

Chapter members once again volunteered to answer phones and take pledges for the Rock 103 Ronald McDonald House Radiothon.

Whole Year - Attendance at chapter meetings is up 49 percent, attendance at CPE is up 150 percent and the Young CPAs continue to flock to mixers with other professional groups!

I believe this is my last address for the fiscal year as I set to wrap up the past year and Ted plans to launch the new year at the Casino Party on May 2. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to serve my profession and all of you outstanding CPA members. Please continue the wonderful trends your board has driven this year and always strive for more!
