Smith Knight Receives Special Recognition Award From Tennessee Society of CPAs
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Dimeta Smith Knight, CPA, of Murfreesboro, was recently presented with the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (TSCPA) 2023 TSCPApex Special Recognition Award.
The TSCPApex Awards Program recognizes the many ways that individuals contribute significant time, energy and intellect to developing the accounting profession and fostering its success. Special Recognition Awards are given to individuals who have contributed to the success of a TSCPA project or initiative.
Smith Knight has been dedicated to furthering diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the society and the accounting profession. Currently, she is serving a second term as the chair of TSCPA’s DEI Committee. In her service to TSCPA, Smith Knight also currently serves on the TSCPA Board of Directors, TSCPA Council, and Board of Trustees of the TSCPA Educational and Memorial Foundation. She has also participated in TSCPA’s Discover Accounting Program, which introduces high school students across the state to the CPA profession in a live or virtual classroom setting.
Smith Knight has been instrumental in furthering DEI in the accounting profession in Tennessee. Through her firm Dimeta Smith, CPA LLC, Smith Knight founded the Connect to Collaborate event, which brings African American CPAs together from across the state for networking, relationship building and professional growth opportunities. The annual event is in its fifth year, and Smith Knight hosted this year’s event at TSCPA’s Meeting Center and also engaged TSCPA as a co-sponsor. Global finance leader Kimi Ellen, CPA, and Harvey Hoskins, CPA, co-founder of the oldest minority owned and operated accounting firm in Nashville Hoskins & Company, were featured panelists at this year’s event.
