TSCPA and Junior Achievement Partner in Financial Literacy Efforts

TSCPA is pleased to announce our partnership with Junior Achievement (JA), a non-profit organization dedicated to educating young people about business, economics, and free enterprise. The partnership between TSCPA and JA will strengthen our financial literacy outreach to students across Tennessee.

A comprehensive, one-hour training, led by JA, can be scheduled for your convenience. At the training, you will receive a turnkey materials kit, containing everything needed to teach a JA program in the grade-level of your choice. These kits include resources, materials, and a volunteer guidebook providing step-by-step instructions to teach the five- to seven-session JA program. JA will connect you to the school and class you’ll be speaking to, and also assist in coordinating your visit with the teacher.

If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity and an outlet to share the professional knowledge you have gained in your career while serving as a teacher, mentor, and role model for young people, this new partnership could be the perfect fit! For more information, please contact Jennifer Manning or Lindsey Deweese at the society office at 615/377-3825.

But for most of us who are on a budget, that isn’t the best decision.

10 Ways To Save Money In 2009

Sharon Epperson, Today, www.today.msnbc.msn.com

You bought a home to build wealth. It's your greatest asset. But now even if you can afford to pay the mortgage, your home is worth less than you paid for it. You've dutifully socked money away in your 401(k), IRA or another retirement account and the value of those investments has dwindled. Those credit cards? You know you should pay them off, but the interest rates are rising at the same time you're trying to whittle down the balance.

Deborah Walker, Career Coach, www.alphaadvantage.com

The biggest difference between today's employment world and that of our fathers' is the rapid pace of corporate change. Expectations of company stability and long lasting employment are a thing of the past. If one isn't tuned into the signals of corporate change, it can mean an unexpected layoff and months of unemployment and job searching. Do you have a career management plan to ensure your career growth in times of corporate chaos?

Is Your Accounting Job Recession Proof?

Brendon Buthello
, Accounting Crossingwww.accountingcrossing.com

Various organizations are in a state of ferment, stumbling in the dark as the United States struggles through a significant recession. Just 12 months ago, large accounting groups were touting corporate finance work as the service line that would sustain the dramatic growth they had enjoyed as a result of international financial reporting standards and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. Since then, however, those plans have gone out the window. In these tougher times, where do the financial accounting jobs stand?

Five Ways To Get Better Compensation in 2009

Anthony Balderrama
, MSN Careers, www.msn.careerbuilder.com

The normal way to ring in the new year is by creating a list of resolutions that results in you eating straight from the fridge at midnight so you're not technically cheating on your diet. If you received a good performance review at work, you might be fortunate enough to get a raise (to offset the cost of the gym membership you'll never use).
