W. P. Whitt
W. PAUL WHITT is a shareholder in Lewis, Thomason, King, Krieg & Waldrop, P.C.'s Knoxville, Tenn. office, and a member of the firm's Construction Practice Group. He practices in the areas of construction law and litigation, including professional liability defense of design professionals, such as engineers, architects and surveyors, as well as professional liability representation of accountants and lawyers. Whitt also has significant experience representing insurance carriers in first party actions brought by insureds related to coverage matters, claims of bad faith, insurance fraud and other extra-contractual matters, as well as experience in general civil litigation. He earned his B.S.B.A. from Union University in 2001 and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of South Carolina in 2005.Back to Facilitators
Mr. Joy has a variety of experience in various civil litigation matters including business and commercial litigation, insurance coverage disputes, healthcare liability defense, personal injury and business torts. He also represents media organizations and journalists in defamation actions and other matters. Mr. Joy has been involved in a number of jury trials to verdict.
Mr. Joy also provides counsel to clients in various industries in the area of information privacy and cybersecurity including security incident investigation, security awareness and policy drafting, cyber risk management and breach response management. Specifically in the area of healthcare, Mr. Joy counsels covered entities on a variety of matters pertaining to HIPAA Privacy Rule, Security Rule, and Breach Notification Rule compliance.
Mr. Joy has earned the Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) credential through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). He is also a Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
Mr. Joy also represents departing individuals as well as employers and closely held corporate entities in business separation and dissolution matters. He has experience in healthcare provider departures and is familiar with the unique issues involved in provider transitions. He also has experience in advising small and midsize private corporations and businesses in various areas.
As the firm’s chief privacy officer, Justin, promotes an awareness of privacy and security-related issues for the firm. He oversees the development and implementation of the firm’s information security and privacy policies. Justin also addresses matters pertaining to client requests for security assessment surveys and related inquiries.Back to Facilitators
