Data security is a more urgent concern than ever. CPAs are in possession of their clients' most sensitive personal and financial details, so it's no surprise they've become prime hacking targets. For many CPAs, their entire business relies on handling confidential client data, so the importance of data security for accountants and firms is one of the top priorities. In 2023, five states - California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and Virginia - have consumer data privacy laws. In this presentation, Melody McAnally of Butler Snow's data security and privacy team will discuss data security and privacy risks and how to protect your clients' confidential information.

Trusted advisors can't rest on past achievements.  We earn Trust everyday especially as it relates to People.  Teamwork and inclusion are not a new concept.  As a matter of fact, firms have been talking about Diversity and Inclusion for years.  Progress is being made but there is more we can do to promote long term, meaningful, progress that enables higher quality for clients, an increased sense of belonging for team members, and competitive advantage for the firm.  Inclusive leadership must be an organizational design principle that is deeply woven across the various business units.  As a result, leaders must reinforce their team building skills to maximize diversity of thought and innovation.  The benefits of business growth, revenue, and retention can't be overstated.

The last 3 years have been unimaginable. The pandemic environment accelerated talent shortages across industries and geographies.  Innovative strategies to recruit, advance, and retain high performing talent are needed now more than ever.  Not only are experienced hires asking questions about company values and culture but interns are asking similar questions as well.  The answers to these questions are easier when inclusion is everyone's responsibility not just the Talent Management team.
