Instructors

Christopher Kuehl

Dr. Chris Kuehl is a Managing Director of Armada Corporate Intelligence. He provides forecasts and strategic guidance for a wide variety of corporate clients around the world. He is the chief economist for several national and international organizations, Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, National Association of Credit Management, Finance, Credit and International Business and the Business Information Industry Association. He is also the economic analyst for several state accounting societies – Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Kansas.

Prior to starting Armada in 1999 he was a professor of economics and finance for 15 years – teaching in the US, Hungary, Russia, Estonia, Singapore and Taiwan. He holds advanced degrees in economics, Soviet studies and East Asian studies.

Chris is the author of Business Intelligence Briefs and Executive Intelligence Briefs - both publications from Armada. He is also responsible for the Credit Manager's Index from NACM and Fabrinomics from the FMA.

Will Cromer

Prior to his appointment as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of THA, Will Cromer most recently worked at a venture capital firm in Nashville that focuses on launching tech-enabled healthcare service companies. Previously, he served as deputy director and chief of staff at the Division of TennCare, where he assisted now THA CEO Dr. Wendy Long in managing and driving the priorities of the $12 billion Medicaid agency.

Prior to TennCare, Will served as Governor Bill Haslam's special assistant for strategy and policy director. In this role, he led the development and implementation of Haslam's policy agenda and served as a key advisor and member of the governor's senior team. Will developed legislation, oversaw strategic initiatives, assisted with budget development and served as a liaison to various state agencies and stakeholders, including TennCare and other healthcare-related agencies and organizations.

Before state government, Will was a senior member of Haslam's successful gubernatorial campaign and spent time in public policy roles in Nashville and Washington, D.C.

Will received a Master of Business Administration degree from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Belmont University.

Kathy Reep

Kathy Reep has more than three decades of leadership experience in the healthcare industry. Her hospital setting expertise is in compliance, financial advisory, reimbursement, and managed care. Kathy has helped with Medicare, Medicaid, workers' compensation, reimbursement, and many other complex programs and issues. She is a thought leader and provider educator, helping hospitals navigate regulations and the impact of change.

Prior to joining PYA, Kathy served as Vice President of Financial Services with the Florida Hospital Association. She also held longtime hospital positions, as well as roles working in patients' business, internal audit, systems management, diagnostic-related group management, and as a reimbursement director.

Kathy received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Central Florida and her Master of Business Administration, Healthcare Focus from Rollins College. She is Co-Chair of Outpatient Workshop of the Medicare Technical Advisory Group at Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, a Board Member of the Florida Chapter of the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management, the Chairman of Statue Uniform Billing Committee, Board Member of Medical Malpractice Joint Underwriters Association, Board Member and Vice-Chair of AdventHealth Credit Union, and Adjunct Facility at Florida Advisor for University of St. Francis. She is a member of the American Health Law Association and serves as a Member Carrier Advisory Committee of First Coast Services Options – Blue Cross Blue Shield Florida.

Kathy is a recipient of the 2019 Bob Broadway Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Chapter of HFMA.

Tangela Johnson

Matt Wolf

Matt is a director and senior health care analyst with RSM's national health care practice. He has 10 years of business valuation experience and leads the national health care business valuation consulting team. His senior analyst responsibilities include advising the firm's health care clients and client servers as they work to navigate the rapidly changing industry environment. Matt regularly writes, presents and advises on regulatory changes, digital transformation, consumerism and other issues transforming health care.

With respect to business valuation, Matt and his team have provided valuation advisory services for a variety of purposes, including buy and sell-side management planning, financial reporting, such as FASB Accounting Standards Codification Topics 350, 360, 718, 805, 820 and 958-805, and physician compensation.

Anna Grizzle, JD

Anna is a healthcare partner at Bass, Berry & Sims. She focuses her practice exclusively on helping healthcare clients address healthcare regulatory matters. She provides advice on fraud and abuse, reimbursement and operational issues and serves as counsel to healthcare providers across industry sectors who are under investigation for potential False Claims Act (FCA) violations and in defending against adverse results in Medicare and Medicaid claims audit.

Valerie Howell, MSN, MBA, RN, NEA-BC

Val is a Manager at RSM in Houston. With over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, Val is a transformational leader with a proven track record of success. She has served in various executive roles including Chief Nursing Officer/Vice-President and Administrative Director over various service lines in both the academic, community and public health settings. Throughout her career, Val has been awarded top leadership accolades including the American Association of Critical Care Nurses "Circle of Excellence" top twenty nurses in the U.S.

Val has led numerous projects in her career and collaborates well with all members of the healthcare team including nursing, physicians and ancillary services. Her knowledge of various databases and data analytics have enabled her to be data-driven in her approach to projects. Val has been able to achieve numerous accreditations including Primary Stroke Center (TJC, DNV), Chest Pain Center (DNV, SCPC) and Pathway to Excellence (ANCC).

Beryl Ramsey Finlan, MBA, FACHE

Beryl is a National Healthcare Leader with RSM. As a tenured executive with over 25 years experience in the healthcare industry, she has worked in various organizations including large academic centers and critical access hospitals. She has a great understanding of healthcare operations with a focus on financial excellence and healthcare operations.

Beryl has been responsible for strategic and operational priorities in numerous practice areas. Prior to RSM, she served as a Regional and Division President, responsible for P & L and strategic growth for 15 to 40 hospitals in 10 different states. She also served as an internal corporate consultant for markets across a large healthcare system, including working with joint ventures with nonprofit systems. This experience has solidified Beryl as an adaptable leader who can engage in diverse organizations.

Beryl has extensive hospital operations experience and has held CFO, COO and CEO roles. She comes with a wealth of knowledge and a collaborative approach when working with clients and stakeholders. She is accomplished with Board presentations and leadership skills that result in improved outcomes.

Courtney H. Bach, CPA

Courtney is a Shareholder in the Audit and Advisory division of LBMC, PC, and focuses mainly on the healthcare industry.

She has more than 10 years of professional experience in healthcare audit and advisory services. Bach has directed audit, consulting and due diligence healthcare engagements for hospitals, behavioral health providers, continuing care retirement communities, independent and assisting living facilities, nursing homes and hospice care organizations.

Bach serves as a speaker for numerous organizations covering accounting and auditing issues and has authored several articles related to issues impacting healthcare entities and the broader profession.

Courtney began her career with LBMC healthcare division and has been instrumental in the growth of this division including the recruiting, hiring and training of staff. Bach serves as Treasurer for McNeilly Center for Children and volunteers with the Junior League. She is also an active member of the Nashville Healthcare Council, Leadership Health Care and serves on two TSCPA committees.

Matthew L. Warren, CPA, CVA

As a senior manager within PYA's valuation services group, Matt provides business valuation and related advisory services for a variety of entities, including physician practice groups, joint ventures, hospitals, and health systems. He has significant experience evaluating compensation and service arrangements between health facilities and physicians. Additionally, he provides litigation consulting services related to lost profits, merger-and-acquisition transactions, wrongful termination, and marital dissolution matters.

Laura L. McGregor, CPA

Laura is a Shareholder in the LBMC Audit and Advisory practice. She has spent the majority of her public accounting career serving the healthcare industry.

Laura has served on a number of healthcare engagements, including audit and due diligence engagements.

Jason Hardin, CPA

Jason leads PYA’s Business Intelligence and Analytics service line and has been with the firm for more than 13 years. A certified public accountant, Jason leverages his strong foundation in accounting and finance to translate data into custom business intelligence solutions for clients. Jason has extensive experience in healthcare claims analytics, financial modeling/analysis, and dashboard development. Jason implements analytics to provide litigation support on a variety of complex cases related to payment disputes between payers and providers, Certificate of Need applications, and Civil Investigative Demands.

Randolph P. Johnston, MCS

Randy has been a top-rated speaker in the technology industry for over 40 years. Inducted into the Accounting Hall of Fame in 2011, Randy is listed as a Top 25 Thought Leader in Accounting from 2011-2023. His influence throughout the accounting profession is highlighted once again this year by being a recipient of the 2022 Accounting Today Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting award for the eighteenth consecutive year. Among his many other awards, he holds the honor of being one of nine technology stars in the U.S. by Accounting Technology Magazine.

In addition, Randy writes a monthly column and produces a weekly podcast for The CPA Practice Advisor, features for the Journal of Accountancy, creates articles for accounting and technology publications, and is the author of numerous books. He has started and owns multiple businesses, including K2 Enterprises in Hammond, Louisiana, and Network Management Group, Inc. in Hutchinson, Kansas. NMGI has supported CPA firms for 30+ years and is the largest managed service provider serving the CPA profession in North America. His wife and four children enjoy many experiences together, including theatre, music, travel, golf, skiing, snorkeling, and model trains. His experience as a college instructor, management and technology consultant, and advisor to the profession will be evident to you in today's presentation.

Paul H. Keckley, Ph.D.

Paul is Managing Editor of The Keckley Report, a healthcare policy analyst and widely known industry expert.

He is a frequent speaker and advisor to healthcare organizations focused on long-term growth, sustainability and advocacy strategies.

In addition to weekly Keckley Report, he has published three books and 250 articles. During the period preceding the passage of the Affordable Care Act, he facilitated sessions between White House Office of Health Reform and major health industry trade groups as private sector input was sought in the legislation.

He is an advisor to Erdman, Sullivan Cotter, Lumeris, Western Governors University and the Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy. He is a member of the Health Executive Network and Healthcare Financial Management Association .

Previously, he served as Managing Director of the Navigant Center for Healthcare Research and Policy Analysis (2014-2015), Executive Director of the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions (2006-2013), executive administration at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (1998-2006), Chief Executive Officer of PhyCor Management Corporation-the IPA Subsidiary of PhyCor Inc. (1994-1998) and Managing Partner of The Keckley Group, a health care research and policy analysis firm (1974-1994). He also served as Independent Chairman of Interdent, a California dental practice management company (1992-1996) and as an Adjunct Professor in the Schools of Medicine, Business and Health Policy at Georgetown University and Vanderbilt University.

He completed his B.A. at Lipscomb University, his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio State University, and a fellowship in economic policy at Oxford University. He resides in Nashville, Tennessee, and enjoys golf, jogging, and the search for great coffee.
