Meet Tayler Hildreth, CPA

February 20, 2023

As a part of Black History Month, we asked several TSCPA members why diversity in the profession matters to them and how accounting helps them leave a legacy they are proud of.

Q: Why does diversity in the profession matter to you?

A: Every individual comes from distinct cultures, backgrounds, and communities. Within any profession, having a diverse group of people fosters an environment of inclusion. Representation from diverse backgrounds is vitally important to me. It’s important to see people who resemble you in leadership roles to show you that you have a place in this profession.

Q: How does accounting help you leave a legacy you are proud of?

A: Accounting has been an amazing career for me so far. I’ve developed a skill set that is not only useful in the workplace but also applicable in my personal life. Accounting has taught me a plethora of things, each being of great importance. I’ve evolved as a person since stepping into this field. I’m more knowledgeable, more patient, and more adaptable. It has also assisted me on my journey of becoming financially free. Accounting has also given me an opportunity to mentor other high school and college students. I have found a unique love for sharing what I know with others who enjoy accounting as much as I do. I genuinely believe I would not be the person I am today without choosing accounting as my career.

At first glance, it looks as if accounting and business are purely about numbers. However, it is really about the people behind the numbers. At the core, business is built on relationships. I would challenge everyone to treat the people they encounter with respect and make them feel like they are an integral part of a larger team. At the end of the day, that feeling of belonging is what people take away from their everyday experiences.
