Meet the Chapter President: Beth Landies, CPA
TSCPA Upper Cumberland Chapter President Beth Landies, CPA, has always had a passion for problem-solving and organization, which naturally led her to a career in accounting. “I chose to become a CPA because I love helping organizations understand the why behind the numbers and leverage technology for better decision-making,” she says. “Accounting provides a unique blend of structure and strategy, which keeps my work both challenging and rewarding.” As director of financial systems for A La C.A.R.T.E. Solutions, Landies has been able to use her passion not only to improve financial processes but also to mentor and develop teams. “Whether it’s through mentoring, process improvement or financial systems implementation, I strive to make a meaningful impact in everything I do.”
Tell us a little about yourself, your family and where you grew up.
I grew up in Clarkrange, Tennessee, and I currently live in Tennessee but will be relocating to Chardon, Ohio, this summer. My family has been incredibly supportive of my career, and I enjoy spending time with them whenever possible.
What do you like most about your job?
I love the opportunity to improve processes and drive efficiency through financial systems and automation. Being able to make an impact by implementing new technologies and optimizing workflows excites me. Additionally, mentoring and developing teams is one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome, or what’s been your most significant success?
One of my biggest challenges – and successes – was leading a large-scale financial systems implementation. It required aligning cross-functional teams, ensuring data integrity and managing change across the organization. Seeing it come to fruition and witnessing the efficiency gains was a proud moment in my career.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
“Always be adaptable.” The accounting profession is constantly evolving, whether due to new regulations, technology or business needs. Being open to change and continuous learning has been crucial to my success.
What has changed the most since you entered the profession, and what do you see changing the most in the next 5-10 years?
Technology has completely transformed accounting, from cloud-based financial systems to automation and AI-driven analytics. In the next 5-10 years, I see an even greater emphasis on data-driven decision-making and automation, allowing finance professionals to focus more on strategy rather than manual processes.
What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?
A fun and unique fact about me is that my family is the only “Landies” in the U.S. My husband’s grandfather and great uncle immigrated from Scotland, and our last name is incredibly rare here. It’s always interesting when people ask about it because it connects us to a rich heritage and a unique family story that not many people share!
Outside of work, how do you like to spend your time?
Outside of work, I love spending my time watching my 12-year old son play travel football as an offensive lineman, specifically as a right guard. There’s nothing better than cheering him on from the sidelines, watching his dedication and teamwork in action. Football has become a big part of our family life, and I enjoy supporting him and his team as they compete and grow together.
