TSCPA Expands Membership To Include Non-CPA Educators and Broadens Affiliate Eligibility
On Aug. 23, 2025, TSCPA took an important step towards expanding its professional community by approving amendments to Article 2 of its bylaws. These changes reflect TSCPA’s commitment to strengthening the relationships and connections with those who contribute to the accounting profession.
A new membership category for non-CPA educators has been introduced, opening TSCPA’s doors to individuals who are primarily engaged in teaching accounting or related subjects but do not hold CPA credentials. This move acknowledges the vital role educators play in shaping the future of the profession and allows them to connect with TSCPA’s resources and network with members.
TSCPA has also revised the qualification for affiliate membership, removing the previous requirement that applicants work at a firm or organization with at least one TSCPA fellow member. Now, anyone working in the accounting profession – regardless of their workplace affiliation – can apply for affiliate membership. This change makes TSCPA more accessible to professionals across a wider range of roles and organizations.
The affiliate and non-CPA educator categories are considered non-voting classifications of members. Currently, there are approximately 250 TSCPA members who fall under the classification of affiliate or educator, including educators who are licensed CPAs.
“TSCPA’s bylaw changes represent an important step in broadening and strengthening our professional community,” said TSCPA Board Chair Heather Batson, CPA. “By welcoming a broader scope of educators and expanding access to affiliate membership, TSCPA is fostering deeper connections across the accounting profession.”
The proposals for these bylaw amendments were approved by the TSCPA Council in June 2025. Fellow members of the society then had the opportunity to review the proposed amendments and complete the online ballot before the voting period closed in August.
