Volunteer Opportunities This Tax Season and Beyond

October 16, 2018

Looking to volunteer your CPA skills during the upcoming tax season? Want to share your expertise with entrepreneurs in your community? Here are a few organizations who would love your help.

AARP Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service, needs volunteers to help with tax assistance and preparation and to become leadership coordinators. You do not need to be an AARP member or a retiree to volunteer. Volunteers work with customers one-on-one at tax sites, and leadership positions coordinate service delivery by volunteers at sites at the local, state or regional level or manage specific program activities such as technology, training, administration or communication. If you are interested in joining the AARP Tax-Aide team, apply at http://tiny.cc/taxaideapply.

If you’re in the Middle Tennessee area, the United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) free tax prep program is also in need of volunteers. The IRS even provides continuing education credits for CPAs who volunteer. Low income individuals and families making less than $66,000 may file their 2018 tax returns through the program. To volunteer with the VITA program, go to www.volunteerforvita.org.

SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship. They are currently looking for volunteers to provide confidential business mentoring services, both in person and online throughout Tennessee. Volunteers lead seminars and workshops to help small business owners meet their goals and achieve success.  Volunteering with SCORE is a great way to give back to your community, connect with fellow business owners and share your knowledge and expertise with the next generation of entrepreneurs in your community.
