Edward G. Phillips
Edward G. "Ward" Phillips heads Kramer Rayson's Employment and Labor groups. He has over 38 years of experience representing management in all areas of employment and labor law. He is a forceful, effective litigator. He has been described by Chambers and Partners USA as, "one of the most talented lawyers in the state with a varied practice of litigation avoidance and successful litigation."
Employment law is his passion, and he gives his clients prompt and lawful prospective advice (i.e., how to deal with problem employees and structure policies). For his Employment and Labor law practice, the prestigious peer-review publication, Best Lawyers in America, selected Phillips for inclusion to its list each and every year since 1995, and also selected him as Lawyer of the Year in Labor Law - Management, Knoxville for 2016. Mid-South Super Lawyers, another highly respected publication, which uses a multi-phased selection process, including independent research and peer nominations and evaluations, selected him to its list for the years
2004-2015 for his Employment Litigation Defense.
Phillips has also been instrumental in developing training programs in many areas of employment relations. He has presented the Knoxville Bar Association's Annual Employment Law Update for over two decades.
Robert L. Bowman
Robert L. Bowman is a partner in the firm's employment law group. He represents individual and management clients in complex litigation involving employment, Fair Labor Standards Act, non-competition and trade secret issues.
In 2004, he was appointed County Attorney for Loudon County. Bowman handles contract negotiations, land use and zoning matters and employment issues for all elected and appointed officials in the County. In April 2009, the Knox County Legislative Delegation appointed Mr. Bowman to serve on the Knox County Election Commission.
He was recently selected as a "Top 40 under 40" by the Greater Knoxville Business Journal. Bowman has been recognized by his peers in polls conducted by City View magazine as one of the top Appellate, Constitutional/Civil Rights, General Civil Litigation and Labor and Employment attorneys in Knoxville.Back to Facilitators
Betsy J. Beck
Betsy J. Beck received her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, cum laude, from The University of Tennessee and her law degree, cum laude, from The University of Tennessee College of Law. While at the college of law, Beck was a member of the Tennessee Law Review and served as a student materials editor.
Beck represents and advises employers in matters involving discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour regulations, non-competition and trade secrets and all other issues related to the employment relationship. Beck regularly assists employers in developing the necessary employment infrastructure by creating general polices and procedures and drug and alcohol testing policies. Beck has developed, maintained and revised affirmative action plans for several large employers in East Tennessee.
Beck also frequently develops and presents on-site training programs to the firmâ€™s clients on various topics, including harassment, drug and alcohol awareness, litigation avoidance and handling employee disabilities and medical leave.
Beck is admitted to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Eastern District of Tennessee, and the State Bar of Tennessee. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association and Knoxville Bar Association. Beck also is a member of the American Inns of Court, Hamilton Burnett chapter. Brandon L. Morrow
Brandon L. Morrow is an associate at Kramer Rayson LLP. Morrow, an East Tennessee native, graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2008 with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. Following a clerkship with the firm during law school, he joined Kramer Rayson LLP as an associate in 2012. Morrow’s primary areas of practice are litigation and employment and labor.Back to Facilitators
Dr. Chuck Carringer is an executive coach, trainer and speaker based in the Knoxville, Tennessee area. Chuck holds a doctorate in Executive Leadership emphasizing executive coaching and leadership styles and is a founding partner of the prestigious John Maxwell Coaching, Speaking, and Training Certification Program.

Chuck is a former distinguished, public school educator. He served 24 years in a variety of roles at the high school level including teacher, Hall of Fame coach (most career victories for any boys’ basketball coach in school history), Athletic Director, and Principal (during his tenure the graduation rate increased from 79% to 92% and he successfully completed a 58 million dollar construction renovation project).
Chuck is known for his successful executive coaching engagements with leaders at every organizational level helping them advance in both leadership and performance outcomes.
